How to Turn Receipt Photos Into a Single PDF
A wallet of crumpled receipts from a business trip becomes far easier to file when the photos turn into one PDF — dated, ordered, and ready to attach to an expense report.
Method 1: A browser-based tool (fastest, nothing leaves your device)
Your browser can do this entirely in JavaScript — the file is read into your device's memory and the result is written back locally, with no upload in between.
- Open the JPG to PDF tool in your browser. No sign-up required.
- Drag your receipt photos onto the page, or browse to select them.
- Arrange them so they read in the sequence you want — by date or by purchase.
- Click Convert. The PDF is built on your device and downloaded, with no upload.
Best for: expense claims, warranty proof and any stack of photo-receipts that should travel as one file.
Trade-off: you need a connection to load the tool once; after that it works offline.
Method 2: Tools already on your computer
On a phone, the Print menu can save a set of photos as a PDF; on macOS Preview you can drop images into a thumbnail sidebar and export. Both work but give less control over order and sizing.
Method 3: Desktop PDF software
Desktop photo or PDF software builds PDFs from images with layout controls and batch sizing. It is a paid option for what is usually a quick job.
Why keep it on your device?
Speed
Local tools skip the upload and download round-trip, so the job finishes as fast as your device can write the result. Server tools add transfer time on both ends.
Privacy
When the document never leaves your machine, there is no copy sitting on someone else's server afterwards — which is what matters for contracts, statements and ID scans.
Cost
Browser tools and the software already on your OS are free. Paid desktop suites earn their price only when you need capabilities beyond the basics, such as OCR.
Convenience
For an occasional task a bookmarked browser tool is hard to beat: no install, no login, and it works on a phone when someone emails you files while you are out.
Common questions
Can I convert receipts without uploading them?
Yes. The conversion happens in your browser; the photos never leave your device. Watch the Network tab while converting and no upload request appears.
Will the photos keep their quality?
Yes. Images are placed at full resolution, so small print on a receipt stays readable when zoomed.
Can I mix JPG and PNG?
Yes. The tool accepts common image formats; they are placed in the order you choose.
What if a photo is sideways?
Rotate it first with the Rotate PDF tool after converting, or re-shoot and re-add before converting.
Can I then merge with a PDF invoice?
Yes. Once the receipts are a PDF, use the Merge PDF tool to combine them with the invoice.
